Every year ArtVilnius has a certain Focus, this year’s Focus is Northern Europe.

This year, the focus is Northern Europe, to whom, according to UN geoscheme classification, the Baltic states are also prescribed. However, regions are never homogenous. They usually manifest specific values, but also they contain contradictions and struggles. Classification, territories, and borders are more porous, heterogeneous, and shifting than they appear at first sight. For example, using different geographical, political, historical, or other calculations, Lithuania or the Baltic States can be classified as Central, Eastern, or Northern Europe. Thus let’s consider this invitation an opportunity to reconsider the aesthetic, political, statistical, or other agencies.

Individual artists can participate in the annual exhibition of sculpture performances and installations TAKAS with their project.

Takas is a curated competition exhibition in which works are selected from the submitted applications by the curator of TAKAS.

Only works of art in the category of sculptures, installations and performances can participate in the exhibition TAKAS.

The curator of the annual exhibition of sculpture performances and installations TAKAS is Maria Arusoo.

Maria Arusoo – director of the Estonian Center for Contemporary Art, long-term commissioner of the Estonian Pavilion at the Venice Biennial, currently in curatorial residency at Kumu Art Museum, curator.
