Sixth International Contemporary Art Fair
25 – 28, JUNE
LITEXPO – Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre, Laisvės av. 5, Vilnius
ARTVILNIUS is the Baltic largest contemporary art fair founded in 2009 by Diana Stomiene, the directress of Lithuanian Art Gallerists’ Association (LMGA). Although the idea for the first international art fair in Baltic states was flowing in the air a long time before, the main trigger to organize this art event was that Vilnius in 2009 became the European capital of culture. According to Mrs. D. Stomiene, LMGA for a decade have been cherishing earnest hopes to hold and international contemporary art fair in Vilnius and in 2009 these dreams finally came true. The number of participants in 2009 ARTVILNIUS was impressing – 100 galleries from 31 countries of the world and more than 20.000 visitors, the art director was professor Raminta Jurenaite. The first visual arts fair received high critical praise from international art experts.
After a year break, in 2011 ArtVilnius in Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO hosted 65 art galleries from 17 countries of the world. In the participants list were art galleries from countries being more remote geographically, such as Japan, the United States, Kazakhstan, the Ukraine, Portugal, Croatia, France, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany, in addition to galleries from our neighbouring countries – Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Poland and of course, Lithuanian galleries.
In 2012 the Third Art Fair participated 53 member galleries from 12 countries of the world. According to the head of ARTVILNIUS, Mrs. Diana Stomiene, this art fair outperformed its predecessors. “We are very pleased with the results as they prove we are on the right path. This year collectors started buying art works on the very first day, as it is common in other international renowned art fairs. Negotiations were in progress up to the last minute. On Sunday, Walter Bischoff Galerie sold a piece right before the closing. Also, there was more action in this art fair than before, including various educational programmes, demonstration of documentary films about artists, video art programme, 3 performances, concerts given by well-known performers and meetings held with the authors of the exhibited works”.
In 2013 ARTVILNIUS represented 50 galleries from 11 countries of the world. The art fair was visited by over 16.000 visitors. In 2014, the fifth edition ARTVILNIUS represented 65 galleries from 18 countries of the world. The creative director of ARTVILNIUS‘14, Eric Schlosser, decided to add even more strength to the outstanding feature of ARTVILNIUS which has already been observed before, i.e., to add focus to photographic artworks created by Lithuanian and foreign artists.
ARTVILNIUS’15 will open it‘s door to the art lovers, collectors and artists 24-28 of June, 2015. The fair will be held, as annually, in Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO. Around 70 galleries from 20 countries of the world are expected.
